Kate Leiper is an artist and illustrator based in Edinburgh, Scotland. She was brought up on the north east coast of Scotland and studied printmaking at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, where she developed a fascination for stories and their portrayal in pictorial form.
Kate continues to be enchanted by the stories she hears – myths, fairy stories, legends, local and personal tales, and through her artwork she aims to bring these to life and portray life experiences common to us all. Her work is mainly in pastels and is notable for its use of colour, intricate detail, atmosphere, emotion and often humour. Her work has been published in a number of books, including “An Illustrated Treasury of Scottish Folk and Fairy Tales”, which was longlisted for the Kate Greenaway award in 2012. She is regularly invited to present workshops and events about her work at literary festivals, schools and libraries.
